Guidelines for Teachers & Parents

 

Arabic Alphabet, are twenty eight letters. Each letter has a basic shape, a name and a sound.

 

We use the basic form, when a letter stands alone (isolated) or when it is used at the end of a word.

 

Some letters have exactly same shape. They are distinguished only by their dots. The dots are part of the letters and not extra diacritical marks.

Disjoined letters (6 Letters)

They are not joined (Connected with) to the following letter even when they are inside a word and their shape – form – does not change according to their position in the words.

 

ز ر ذ     د و ا

 

Long Vowels:

In Arabic there are three long vowel letters, which are:

 

Alef                                          Pronounced                             aa

Waw                                        Pronounced                             uu

Ya'                                            Pronounced                             ii / ee

 

 

 

 

Objectives of  lesson 1:

 

* Introducing the three long vowels " ا " and " و " and " ي " with their sounds.

* Learning the disjoining six letters (that never join from left in writing).

* Practice reading various syllables using the six letters with the three long vowels.

* Practice writing the six letters and the three long vowels.
