It was not an unsual thing for Mr Lestrade of Scotland Yord to call on us in the evening on his way home.  His visits were welcome to sherlock Holmes, for they enabled
him to keep in touch with all that was going on at the police headquarters. Holmes was always ready to listen with attention to the details of any case the detective was working  on , and was working on, and was often able to give some helpful advice based on his own vast knowledge and experience of detective work.  On one particular evening in the spring of 1895, Lestrade had told us of all his news .  Then he had fallen silent , puffing thoughtfully at his cigar.  Holmes looked sharply at him .
