106 B. Read the text and answer the questions:

The declaration was adopted unanimously, and the meeting renounced all allegiance to the British government and declared the thirteen American colonies to be independent under a new name.  The name chosen was the United States of America, then a narrow strip of land facing the Atlantic Ocean with a population of only two and a half million.  It was the greatest defeat ever suffered by British imperial power, and the birth of a New World power.

2-  Find two examples in the text to show how important the

     declaration was.
