- Some verbs are seldom found in the Present Continuous Tense.

It is not possible to find a name that fairly describe all these verbs, but they are mostly verbs of sense, feeling, or perception .

 

Verbs of "thinking":

To think , believe, agree, understand, know, remember, forget, mean, doubt.

- I understand the teacher's lesson. ( not I am understanding) .

 

Verbs of "feeling":

To wish, love, hate, like, dislike, imagine, want , taste, smell, hear, feel.

- The soldier wishes to go home.(not is wishing).

 

Verbs of "possession":

 To have, own, belong, want.
-
 The rich man owns three cars (not is owning).

 

Verbs for "reporting":

To say, tell, answer, report.
- My uncle
says he is poor. (not is saying).

 

Particular verbs:

To cost, seem, appear, need, weigh, prefer, recognise, taste.

- The elephant weighs fifty kilos. (not is weighing).
